Domain Mapping: How to do Domain Mapping in cPanel

What is Domain Mapping

Domain Mapping

Domain Mapping refers to the process of connecting a domain name to a website or web application, enabling the domain to serve the content hosted elsewhere. It is often used when a domain is registered with one provider but hosted on a different platform. Domain mapping allows users to access content on one server using a different domain name, often for the purposes of rebranding, better navigation, or content redirection.

How to Do Domain Mapping in cPanel

Log in to cPanel:

Go to yourdomain.com/cpanel and log in with your credentials.

Add the Domain:

  • In cPanel, find the Domains section and click on Addon Domains.
  • In the New Domain Name field, enter the domain you want to map.
  • cPanel will automatically fill in the Subdomain and Document Root fields, but you can change them if needed.
  • Click Add Domain to create the mapping.

Update DNS Records:

  • After adding the domain, you need to update the DNS records for the domain.
  • Log in to the domain registrar where the domain is registered and find the DNS management section.
  • Update the A Record to point to the IP address of the hosting server where cPanel is set up.

Configure Redirection (Optional):

  • In cPanel, go to the Domains section and click on Redirects if you want to set up redirection.
  • Choose the type of redirect (Permanent or Temporary) and the domain you want to redirect.
  • Enter the destination URL and click Add.

Wait for DNS Propagation:

  • It may take some time for the DNS changes to propagate across the internet. This process can take up to 24-48 hours.

By following these steps, you can map a domain to your cPanel account and manage it efficiently.
